Flavorful homemade sourdough stuffing is the best easy side dish for Thanksgiving. Sourdough bread adds a tangy depth of flavor to this beloved savory classic.
4tablespoonfresh thyme(just use the leaves, removed from the woody stems)
½cupfreshly parsley, roughly chopped
4tablespoonbutter, melted (¼ cup or ½ stick)
2eggs
½teaspoonsalt
¼teaspoonground black pepper
2cupsvegetable broth or chicken broth
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch by 13-inch baking dish with a little butter.
Toss the sourdough bread cubes in a large mixing bowl with the diced onion, minced garlic, thyme, parsley and melted butter.
In a small bowl, whisk the eggs with the salt, pepper and broth. Pour the egg mixture over the bread and vegetables. Mix until everything is combined.
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes, until the onion is fully cooked and the bread is golden. Enjoy!!
Notes
If your sourdough bread is really soft and fresh, cut it into pieces and let it sit out for a day to harden. This will prevent it from becoming mushy.
You can use either store bought or homemade sourdough.
You can also add chopped fresh sage and rosemary for added flavor.
Turn this side dish into a main dish, mix cooked ground turkey or sausage into the stuffing.
