What is a Smoothie Bowl?
If you’ve never indulged in a cold, nourishing smoothie bowl, you’re missing out! A smoothie bowl is essentially a super-duper thick smoothie. It’s too thick to drink from a cup, so you scoop it into a bowl and eat it with a spoon! And one great thing about smoothie bowls is that you can make them (a) with whatever you have in your kitchen, and (b) with whatever suits your palette and dietary needs. These are some of my favorite vegan smoothie bowls – two ways. Indulge in a luxurious, rich chocolate peanut butter banana smoothie bowl! Or opt for a healthy, green smoothie bowl with tahini, dates and kale! Both are vegan, gluten-free and void of any refined sugar. So dig in and enjoy!
The Secret Ingredient for Creamy Smoothies
Frozen bananas are common in smoothies and smoothie bowls to help thicken them. But did you know that frozen zucchini is also a magical ingredient for the ultimate thick and creamy texture?! Just slice up a few zucchini, steam them for about 10 to 15 minutes, then let them cool completely. Pop them all in an airtight container or zip lock bag and freeze them. Voila! When you blend them up, you get the thickest, creamiest smoothie bowls known to humans. 💚
Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie Bowl
This smoothie bowl is perfect when your sweet tooth is craving some chocolate for breakfast! Or blend it up after dinner for a healthy, salty-sweet dessert. I also love this chocolate PB banana smoothie bowl after an intense workout, because it’s such a treat and packs a ton of protein!
Of course, if you really want to bro-out with your protein, you could try Arnold Schwarzenegger’s protein shake… which includes a whole raw egg – shell included!! I’ll stick with mine over here, thanks. 💪

Tahini, Date & Kale Smoothie Bowl
Kale and avocado give this smoothie bowl its gorgeous green color. And I don’t know about you, but whenever I eat green food, I feel even more healthy! Tahini provide a creamy texture, while dates sweeten your smoothie bowl, without the need of refined or processed sugar. And of course, there is a frozen banana and frozen zucchini, to ensure it’s thick enough to stick a spoon in. Top it all with some fresh berries and nuts of your choice! I added pitted cherries, sliced strawberries and freshly picked blueberries. 💙

Hungry for More Smoothies and Smoothie Bowls?
One of the many great things about smoothies is that they are so versatile! You can throw in the last leaves of wilted spinach or kale, the last scoop of peanut butter or Nutella from a jar, and anything else you have lying around in your kitchen. Here are a few more of my favorite smoothies, after you’ve tried these vegan smoothie bowls – two ways!
– pear & kale smoothie with cinnamon almond granola
– green tea lime pie smoothie with super-seed granola
– dandelion fruit smoothie
– blackberry banana vegan nice cream (i.e. a super thick smoothie)
